Chapter 209: Visiting His Past-3

Samantha’s hands flew to her mouth at the incriminating sight she was forced to witness; the blood, the dagger, his unheard cries, and the little piece of the Orb that had been heartlessly shoved into his chest by his evil brothers. They let go of him the minute they were satisfied with their assault, and when Ivan tried to rise up regardless of his critical condition, his limbs gave way, whilst he dropped to the floor as his blood continued to pool around him, unconscious, unmoving.

It looked as if he was... DEAD!

"NO..!" Samantha whispered with terror, her heart squeezed in pain, and her eyes filled to the brim with tears as she gazed at Ivan’s ill-fate. She was about to approach his body when the doors burst open at the last minute, and the people who walked in were Tobias and Alistair. She could recognize them, and as expected, there were sparks of blazing fury reflecting in their orbs when their gaze landed on the body of Ivan. From the way they came in, it felt as though they had suspected something would happen here.

"The hell did you–! What did you do to him?!" Alistair angrily shoved Eamon who stumbled back twice, keeping him away from Ivan’s body as the two brothers came to stand with Eamon.

"You have no proof of it, I did nothing." Was Eamon’s curt response, as if he was oblivious to the fact that there was a soul bleeding in front of him. "He hurt himself, and I found him like this, what should I have done?" He questioned back, looking slightly irritated by Alistair’s accusing glare.

"His heart is dropping." There was a surge of urgency in Tobias’s voice, breaking the argument between the two of them as he checked Ivan’s pulse, "his heart rate, it’s dropping... and it’s dropping fast! Alistair, come here, now’s not the time to throw fits with them, it’s not worth it."

Alistair, who was ready to wipe away the condescending smirk on Eamon’s face, was forced to retreat since there was a human that needed saving. He moved to Ivan’s body and lifted him up on his shoulder, taking him out of the Orb room.

Tobias casted the three of them a look of pure disappointment before following his brother out.

"What... What happened to my son?" Ivan’s Mother, who had been informed about the news had bursted into his chamber, her pale face portraying her worry when her eyes moved to Ivan who was unconscious on the bed, and the physician was carefully wrapping his chest with a bandage. She glanced at Tobias and Alistair who were smeared with blood, and her questioning eyes made them speak.

"We found him like this, in the orb room." Tobias informed her before muttering with disdain, "and those wolverines were there."

"Carina’s children?" Ivan’s Mother, who was named Silvia, no longer had the strength to question them and moved to the side of her bed where her son was resting. She glanced at the physician who had a grim expression on his face, one that did not sit well with her, and she asked.

"What... What happened to my son? Is he fine?"

"I’m afraid I cannot say for now." The physician uttered before inhaling deeply, "he has lost a lot of blood, and I can’t... feel a pulse."

Silvia’s face turned aghast, "are you saying my son is..."

"It’s a strange phenomenon," the physician explained. "He’s not dead, I can feel his essence, but his heart is not responding. If he doesn’t wake up after two days, he might fall into a prolonged state of deep unconsciousness."

"You mean a...c...coma?"

"Yes." He answered, almost sadly. Silvia looked at her son whose whole body had gone paler than their supposed color, and she pressed her forehead with his own, warm tears slipping from her eyes at her innocent son’s predicament.

"What happened to you? I’m so sorry, forgive your Mother for being so neglecting. My son.." she cupped his face in her hands, her blue eyes looking at his sickly face in the hopes that he would wake up.

Samantha could no longer hold back the tears that escaped her eyes upon seeing Ivan’s state. She didn’t want to continue with this dream, she wanted to be done with it, but once again, the dream shifted, and this time around, Ivan had grown a bit taller.

He seemed to have just woken up from his coma after months, because when he got out of bed, his legs caved, and he fell on his knees.

It took some time before he rose to his feet, and when he moved to his mirror, he nearly screamed when a pair of crimson eyes were staring right back at him, but he covered his mouth with his palm. In disbelief, he touched his face, and it took a while before his brain finally processed that he was gazing at his own reflection, and those beady eyes were his own eyes.

He wasn’t wearing glasses, but he could see!!

"My powers... I’m a...vampire." He gasped when he noticed his lengthened canines. He had been waiting for this day, the day when everyone would no longer view him as a burden, and today, it happened!

"I have to tell Mother!" There was a brief look of excitement in his eyes, and it took a lot of great concentration to switch to his human form. Although his body was weak and still in the process of rebooting, Ivan picked a new pair of glasses and used the little strength he could muster to step out of the room.

He noticed the corridors were eerily empty, and it didn’t give him a good feeling. When he passed the courtyard, he realized that it was nighttime. Upon reaching his Mother’s chamber, he knocked on the door, but there was no response. He guessed she was probably asleep, but to confirm his thoughts before leaving, he opened the door and walked in. The excitement on his visage dropped thin when the sight of his Mother, hanging against the ceiling with a rope to her neck made him stagger back in shock.

"M.. Mother?"

It hadn’t been too long when he stepped in that the Palace guards hurried into the room. He didn’t notice anyone, and his eyes were fixed on what he believed to be his Mother who was... DEAD??!!!

"No." He shook his head in denial, and then he heard the voice of Carina speak distastefully behind him.

"If she wanted to die so badly she should have at least hired someone to do the job." Carina tsked, "her actions are soiling the Kingdom’s name. Who on Earth commits suicide these days."

"She’s.... Dead?"

"And when did you wake?" Carina, who was stupefied by Ivan’s presence, walked up to shock-stricken boy. "Don’t tell me you woke up to witness the beginning of another tragedy. If you have plans of joining her, don’t make it suicide, please." Ignoring his presence afterwards, she walked out of the room while Ivan was forced to bear witness to his Mother being dropped and taken away.

He remained on the floor in her room, unable to comprehend what just happened, and then suddenly, his emotions were turned off. Since that day, he had forgotten how to smile, a tear barely escaped his eyes when he walked out of her chamber. His heart bled from the pain, he found himself stumbling on his steps as he returned to his room.

If there was something he did wrong he hardly knew, his brain refused to cooperate with him, and his emotions, they felt numb, he hardly felt his Mother’s death because the pain had ceased his ability to feel. He felt empty as he sat at the corner of his bed, his eyes devoid of the will to live, and for a moment, it felt like he was standing on the line between giving up and seeing how much more he could take.

"Where did your Mother go? One can label you a curse if words get out." Eamon murmured to him the next day, but all he did was give him a glance and walk away. He ignored everyone, their pitiful gaze, their company, everything, and most importantly, himself.

When they kept coming with no sign of leaving him alone, his silent grief began to morph into anger. No one noticed his sadness, how lonely he had become, no one, but when he finally decided to strike, when he no longer chose to tolerate, he became a bad person in the eyes of everyone.

The day he cracked was when his Mother’s funeral was being decided in the court. He had killed a few Ministers who had refused to acknowledge his Mother’s death rite, and the scene had frightened everyone, most especially the people of GreenHollow who were present to witness his assault on his own people.

Eventually, the most kind hearted person will turn cold, and that’s when you know...they have been pushed too far. The boy who once cared way too much about everything, no longer cared at all.
