Chapter 305: Wedding of the Century (6)

Standing out with his large form and beard, Axel wanted nothing more than to hide, especially with all the glamourous, striking, elven men and ladies dancing, laughing and chatting like angels. Alright, the men he wasn’t too bothered by. They all looked like slightly manly women, except for Garrett, of course.

Between a few humans and the elves, though, he was an absolute giant. Without his axes, Axel was a little self-conscious. That was until Nariel, who spoke to him earlier, popped up like some sort of daisy. Axel jumped back at her sudden appearance. Nariel was not scared, but his heart raced. Maybe that was the overly sweet wine? Or it might be because Nariel was a little stunner, and that stunner was looking up at him with those big doe-like eyes.

Did he really have a shot with someone like Nariel? If he did, the gods had blessed him fiercely.

"Axel, tell me, have you travelled far?" Nariel asked in that cinnamon-sweet voice of hers. Cinnamon because he loved cinnamon rolls, and this elven lady was someone he was beginning to have a sweet tooth for.

"And do not say Dunhurst!" Nariel slapped his arm in a friendly manner, her smile lighting up her features as she craned her neck to stare up at him. "I know you are from there, but you look as though you are well travelled."

The corners of Axel’s lips twitched up, intrigued by the elf who was taking such an interest in him. "What makes you say that?" Axel asked curiously, leaning slightly forward and unknowingly charming the wits out of Nariel. He was not a smooth talker like Ronan, nor did he have the looks of Ronan or Ger, but his warm rumble of a voice shot straight through Nariel like bait to a fish.

Nariel did not care. She was already utterly smitten with this mountain man. Leaning closer to the giant, lured in like a moth to a flame, Nariel whispered, "*Because your eyes speak of tales that I wish to hear.*"

"I’m sorry I do not understand Muranthian," Axel replied, feeling like a fool and wishing he’d asked Evanna to teach him a few sayings. At least then, he could try to impress Nariel.

Nariel waved her hand. "*In time, I will teach you.*" Axel tilted his head to the side, still unsure about what she said. Her smile was mischievous, and he found himself smiling back at her even though he did not understand her words, but that look behind her eyes kept him captivated. He could not look away. "It is your eyes," she added. "They are full of intelligence."

"Pfft, really?!" Ronan laughed from his seat at a table where two elven ladies sat by his side. Axel glared in his direction. He should have sat down to remain hidden, but he didn’t want to disturb Ronan or speak with one of the ladies who was overly flirtatious. Her goal seemed to be to try to take one of the humans to bed.

Axel was suspicious of that, yet he did not get the same intuition towards Nariel. There was a genuine interest from her. He didn’t understand it, but he wasn’t going to turn her away.

Nariel’s hand caressed the side of Axel’s cheek as she redirected his attention back to her, those dark brown eyes warm as she said, "Really. Tell me, Axel."

Axel’s ears reddened from her touch and the slight press of her body against his chest. Nariel was tall, possibly the same height as Evanna, but Axel was an absolute tree; she must have gone on her tiptoes to touch his face. His hands clenched and unclenched with the sudden intense need to touch her. Still unable to look away from those molten brown spheres, Axel swallowed his cowardice and courage and extended his hand towards Nariel. "I will tell you tales until you grow bored. Why don’t we sit down somewhere a little quieter?"

"I would never grow bored of your tales." Nariel accepted his hand and followed his lead to another table away from Ronan and the girls he was entertaining.

Ronan watched his red-eared friend walk away with the brown-haired beauty on his arm. Maybe Nariel will do him some good. The guy needed to get some more courage and be more confident with himself. The guy wasn’t ugly, but when he stood beside himself, it was hard to compete.

"What are you thinking about?" One of the women, one he had already forgotten the name of, asked on his right arm. She’d been pressing herself against his arm whilst the other stroked a finger up and down his chest as she whispered Muranthian in his ear. He didn’t need to understand the naughtiness in her words; each time her finger trailed down his chest, it grew closer to his waist.

"Hmm?" Ronan looked at the woman, trying to focus on her even though the other continued to whisper to him, her hand now caressing the inside of his thigh. "Oh, just how lucky I am to be with such beautiful company."

"Oh." She slapped his arm. "You’re such a charmer. I know that is not what you were thinking."

"Ha, but that is what I am thinking now..." Ronan smirked, his hand trailing down her back. That smirk dried up to the hand that grew a little too daring. It ran over his crotch, making him stiffen. The woman beside him giggled.

Now, this was usually what Ronan liked, especially after spending the day watching Evanna with her prince. She was obviously never in his league, and he called it quits long ago. He was even sure that a woman like Evanna would make him settle down. But that was all in the past now.

Still, these women, as beautiful as they were, even with his growing arousal, weren’t really doing it for him. His gaze landed on Ger, and any lust stirring within him dried. He tasted ash in his mouth even after taking a sip of the delicious, sweet, elven wine.

Ger was by himself, remaining in a dark corner, his arms folded, looking all ominous, dangerous even, especially with that glinting lizard-like eye. Many stayed clear from him, and that was exactly what he wanted. Since returning from the dead, he preferred a little more distance from others.

That didn’t stop Ronan from abruptly standing from his chair, adjusting himself, uncaring that others might see the erection in his pants, and walking away from the women who meant nothing to him.

"Hey!" They called, but he waved them off.

"Sorry girls, brother in need," he brusquely said over his shoulder and started to approach the man who seemed to make this corner of the hall slightly chilly.
