"What exactly do you want, Dad?" She inquired without turning to see if it was actually her father who had entered.

Tang Mei turned to face her father, wide-eyed. She was unable to believe it. Were those words spoken by her father?

"What do you mean by this? That I am insane, I am not crazy; I am just going through a lot, and as my father, you are supposed to understand me," Tang Mei mumbled, looking at her father with glossy eyes.

Tang Zheng released his breath. He had avoided saying this previously. However, he needed his daughter to know that she had changed.

"I know you are going through a lot, I understand you; you are my daughter, my life, but you need to understand that your attitude causes the people who love you to be cautious when they are with you; it is not meant to be," Tang Zheng explained.

"I only have one beloved daughter, and that is you; do not say you ruined your own mood?" Mrs Cheng had absolutely no idea who Cheng Nan was referring to.

"Not me mother, Cheng Luiying," Cheng Nan grumbled.

Mrs Cheng let out a hiss right away.

"I do not consider her my daughter, let alone my beloved daughter," Mrs Cheng stated firmly, and Cheng Nan let out a low chuckle.

’Even if you are Xin Yi’s wife, you will never have the love you desire Cheng Luiying; that is a mother’s love,’ She smiled smugly as she considered it.

"Tell me about it; what did she do to you? How did you even meet her?" Mrs Cheng appeared perplexed as she asked question after question.

Cheng Nan described everything that had happened in the shop.

Mrs Cheng’s face turned pale as she experienced various emotions.

"No," she said, standing up and shaking her head.

"This is impossible," she said, shaking her head. Cheng Nan scrunched her nose up, wondering what was wrong with her.

"What is wrong with you, Mom?" She asked with a concerned voice.

"Cheng Nan, we are finished, doomed," Mrs Cheng exclaimed, holding Cheng Nan, who was still unable to understand what her mother was saying.

"What exactly do you mean by that?" What exactly are you trying to say? Cheng Nan asked, smiling, but she was terrified. Her mother’s demeanor terrified her.

"She should not have opened the shop; her mother will find her; if she does, it will be over for me, you, and your brother," Mrs Cheng said, frustratedly moving around the room.

"Are you not her mom? "Mom, I am very confused; just tell me what is happening." Cheng Nan despised the feeling of not knowing what was going on, especially when it was directly related to her.

"Cheng Luiying is not my daughter, your father’s daughter, or your sister; she is unrelated to us at all," Mrs Cheng admitted.

Cheng Nan remained rooted in her position, staring at her mother with wide eyes. She was not expecting what her mother just told her.

"What do you mean when you say she is unrelated to us?" Chen Nan inquired. Mrs Cheng sighed as she guided her to a seat.

"I have a story to tell you," she whispered, and they both took their seats.

"I was once pregnant; it was my first child with your father, and we were both looking forward to it," she said with a nostalgic smile as she reflected on the past.

She remembered how her late husband, Mr Cheng, would always rub her belly when he got home from work.

"I went into labor very early, at eight months, and your father was not with me at the time; he was on a business trip," she paused as she remembered that fateful day.

The day she went into labor, she committed a crime, a sin.

"I went into labor, but I gave birth to a dead baby; the doctor said the baby died while they were trying to bring him out; it was a boy, just like I wanted," Mrs Cheng said, already in tears.

Cheng Nan pressed her lips together. At this point, she could clearly feel her mother’s pain. She could not imagine how her mother would have felt if she had given birth to a dead baby.

"I was devastated as I held my dead child, heartbroken, and on the verge of going insane, when a nurse came to inform me that another lady had given birth in the ward next to mine; she did not say anything else, but the look in her eyes told me what she needed me to do," Mrs Cheng clenched her fists as she recalled what she did twenty-five years ago.
